Natural Accutane Alternatives
If you are like me, you have battled acne before. From the time I was a shy 7th grader up to the day before my wedding I’ve had to find fast ways to remove these red, sometimes white, bacterial presents from the skin gods. I’ve tried it all, Creams, special soaps, and especially Prescriptions, but at what cost?
We’ve all heard the rumors that these prescription medications can cause TONS of issues and stop working the minute you stop using them. So, I took it upon myself to dive into one of the oldest forms of medicine, herbalism, and find out if there is better natural alternative to solve the acne epidemic then prescriptions.
I interviewed a medicine man and herbalist of 25+ years for his feedback, and here it is..
Acne is something that as an adolescent, growing up in the world, a lot of people have experienced at some point in our lives. But there are some people that have such a bad case of it that it begins to affect their adult life. Modern medicine has come up with a pill for every ill. However, it is also well known that modern medicine does not heal or cure the root cause instead, their medicine targets the symptoms which does effectively nothing. Once stopped the symptoms typically return.
Natural medicine targets the root cause and treats the symptoms as a secondary situation. Therefore, natural medicine does have a more successful history of treating and curing illness than modern medicine. Herbal remedies have been around for thousands of years and with that much history it should tell you that there is something successful about it or it would have been replaced long ago. Natural medicine is a force to be reckoned with. Accutane is a pill that doctors used to prescribe for patients that really needed help with very bad cases of acne.
Although the name is still widely recognized, the drug was discontinued in 2009 due to lawsuits over side effects and diminishing market share due to the availability of the many generic versions of the drug. Accutane is a brand-name version of the drug isotretinoin. However, the generic version of isotretinoin and other brand-name versions, such as Absorica, are still available although, they are not much better, safety wise.
However, as with all drugs, there were very harsh side effects and spin off illnesses and diseases that Accutane has been linked too. Some cases studies have even found a possible link between the drug, and the development of Crohn’s disease. It could never be taken by pregnant women because it caused birth defects. One of the best herbal remedies for acne is widely available in many forms and does not come with side effects that are considered dangerous.
The first remedy and the one that has to be the most powerful is Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE). This highly concentrated extract from the seed of the grapefruit comes in a tincture, as a concentrated thick liquid, tablets and can be found in many products already. It is usually sold in herb stores, natural food stores and even recently in skincare products. Bellus Skincare located in Pompton plains NJ leverages fresh GSE when they custom formulate acne cleanser and moisturizers for their clients.
When treating acne, it is best to treat the problem from outside because it actually is a skin issue. Instead of taking pills for this problem it is advised to use skin treatments instead. Acne really is an overreaction to oily and dirty skin and clogged pores. Another reason acne happens to the best of us is because of the lack of water and diets we choose to eat. And without giving modern doctors a pat on the back I will even mention this is well known and sometimes mentioned to patients by their nutritionists.
So, it is well worth mentioning an all organic, non-genetically modified (GMO) diet could be all you need paired with GSE treatments to see better skin in a matter of days. The way GSE works as an herbal alternative to prescription acne medicine is that it is an antiviral, antibiotic and antimicrobial extract which kills the bacteria causing problems in the pores. Daily treatments of washing with GSE has shown remarkable results in people’s acne for years.
What do you think? Is the natural remedy worth a shot? Well if something has been around for thousands of years and has not been disproven, it may be safe to say it can be a great alternative.
